Notebooking Pages Lifetime Membership Reviews
My girls and I loved the Lifetime Membership from NotebookingPages.com. I found that it is a great way to enhance learning while also creating a beautiful portfolio that will be a display of everything that you have learned.

What is notebooking? Well, I am so glad you asked! Notebooking is keeping a compilation of what you have learned by: reflections, sketches, pictures, notes, short stories, etc. This is different than simply taking notes, or even keeping a diary. Notebooking is a way cement the learning process through multi-sensory methods.

I want you to understand that there are a lot of benefits to notebooking for your child. I think the biggest thing it did for my girls was relieve the stress of traditional methods of learning. In brick and mortar, you are required to simply memorize information and then regurgitate it all whenever asked. Notebooking helps bring the stories to life in a more relevant way....which in turn leads to lifetime learning. As your child captures new knowledge through a variety of methods and stores it in the notebook, you will see a love for learning grow! Our kids want to not only be successful in their education, they want to feel successful!

What we received with the Lifetime Membership was:

  • All the current notebooking products...and they are nearly innumerable. You can take your pick from: Art Study, Famous People, Geography, Modern Times, Music, Science, History, and much more!
  • All the future notebooking products...anything that comes out in the future is available to you without having to do anything else. It will just become available as it comes out.
  • Search bar & Table of Contents....this is so great, because it makes it so much easier to navigate your way through all the available pages, and find just what you need.
  • Tutorials, Tips and Videos...I love that you have access to all the homeschooling tips and videos. This is a wonderful resource and will impact your homeschool for the good.
  • Unlimited Lifetime Access....I love that this membership is a Lifetime Membership. That takes the pressure off when it comes to downloading and using the product. This way you can use what you need when you need it without any hassle or deadlines!!
Notebooking Pages Lifetime Membership Reviews
With my girls on summer break, we utilized this product in a "freestyle" manner and I allowed them to use it as they chose. I gave them the guidelines and time-frame parameters and then left them to it. I loved that we were able to use this as a summer learning program of sorts and increase our knowledge during what would have normally been an "off" time! They bounced around between the topics, but absolutely loved these notebooking pages. My oldest loves to write and found that the pages which allowed her to write short stories or create poems were her favorite. My youngest is not that fond of writing and she found that color pages were her favorite. So even though their interest and personalities are different, what I found similar was their love of this product.

With notebooking being a fairly new idea for us and our homeschool, I found this product to be top notch. Not only because of the fact that the pages are well thought out and creatively done....but because of the vast number of them. This product is so versitile and wonderfully crafted...you can put it to use anywhere in your homeschool and see it impact your child positively!

MySchoolYear.com: My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) Review ~ TOS rew

      MySchoolYear.com Review

See my full Disclosure statement for more information.
I have been homeschooling my girls for the past 5 years, and I can tell you that the one thing that frightened me the most about giving this a try was the record keeping portion. As a girl who has always wanted to stay well withing the boundary of any given rule....I get a little "OCD" when it comes to making sure that I keep good records for their schooling. Let me tell you this though...we as homeschoolers have sure come a long way when it comes to record keeping!! Gone are the days of the old, print grade book and lesson plan books. No longer do we need to hand write out 2 separate lesson plan books: one for the teacher and one for the students, instead we can utilize our electronic devices to help us make sense of the intricate details of tracking multiple students. Recently, I've been using My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) from MySchoolYear.com to plan and track our school work.

I am always excited to give new products a try, and when it is one that will make my life easier that is even better! When I began loading the class information for my daughters, I found the website a little bit confusing, but the trade-off is well worth spending a little bit of time making sense of the process.

What you find when you utilize My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) is a one stop shop for tracking the classes, progress, attendance, activities, and a lesson plan generator. I have no doubt that this product will make your homeschool life easier. I really like that they offer a free trial for you to give it a whirl before making up your mind. That will give you the opportunity to check it out and play around on the website to customize it to fit your educational needs.

      How Does it Work?

I love that this product can be used for one child, or multiple children! So, when you dive into it...you get to set up a section for each one of your kiddos! Once you do that, you can add subjects and curriculum. You can also add activities, and track the time and progress of your student for each one. After creating a slot for the curriculum, you can decide whether to use the Rapid Repeat (for repeat of same item) or Quick Split (for splitting up books by pages, etc.) This way if they are reading a book, or working in a textbook, etc...you can split it up easily and quickly.

      How Did We Use It?

I have two daughters. One is in the 9th grade and one is in the 12th grade. Under each name I added the subjects that they will be doing, and the curriculum that will be used. At that point you can select which days they will be doing each subject and the time frame that will be spent in each subject. We generally do the majority of our schooling Monday through Thursday. We leave Fridays fairly open for extra-curricular activities or any catch up that needs to happen.

      My Bottom Line:

I have to say that this product is vast. For those of you....and you know who you are....that love to plan everything out and track it all, you will love this product! You can do just about everything on this website, up to creating high school transcripts. So this is designed to stick with you from Kindergarten through High School!!

I'm not saying that this is the case today.....but we have had some anxiety induced meltdown moments during home school, all because of MATH! Are any of you homeschool parents feeling me right now?  LOL!  Many students have a love/hate relationship with Math. I completely understand that, since that was me during my high school years! LearnBop has a great new way to practice math with their LearnBop for Families subscription! Finding the right tool to help each of your children learn effectively and efficiently is not always an easy task. Sometimes, this daunting task seems unmanageable, but I am hoping to help you out today! Since I find it to be the absolute greatest responsibility as a homeschool parent, I wanted to share this great online math tutoring site with you. Some of you may also feel like me, I feel that the task gets harder as my children get older...That is why I am so happy to have the opportunity to review this product for LearnBop

With LearnBop for Families , math help is just a click away. You can take it on the go and utilize this wonderful help from anywhere. Which I'm sure your kids will love!! LOL! LearnBop for Families  is a tool to help your student navigate through the world we call math, and come out successful on the other end! This online Math subscription service provides personalized Math tutoring/instruction for students in the 3rd to 12th grades, and they have one goal in mind....Math education! I used this program with a 9th grader and a 12th grader. I loved that the program is easy and fun to use. When I signed my girls into the program, they were able to easily navigate the system and find their way through their own roadmap!
LearnBop for Families ReviewBecause we are currently on Summer Break....I didn't put a lot of requirements on my girls. I told them to work through the program 3 days a week, and they went to work! They worked through the units as they wished...and enjoyed the instructional videos a lot. My youngest really enjoyed the opportunity to warm up before beginning. It was wonderful watching them solidify previous concepts they had already learned, as well as learn new things in prep for the beginning of the school year.
      LearnBop for Families Review
I found this product to be beneficial and practical as a homeschool parent. This is a great way to provide additional helps and tutoring so that your child is always moving forward in their educational needs. LearnBop for Families is a win.....win!

      God's Perfect Creation

See my full Disclosure statement for more information.

I absolutely love the diversity you find in nature. How many of you are like me? I find myself at peace when I am surrounded by the creation of God and I can take in all of his creative work! Think about how many different types of flowers there are....or animals for that matter. Think about the colors of the fish, and the diversity of trees. God created each one through the power of His Word....and it is all so good! I for one have never pondered why God would create one tree with big leaves and yet another with small ones. I have never questioned what God was doing when I look at a giant bullfrog next to a small tree frog. Instead I feel that it speaks to my heart in a way that only nature can and assures me of a God larger than anything......larger than everything, and I find peace in my soul through the stillness of that moment.

Yet, how is it that the same diversity....the same unique creativity can be called into question when we ponder the creation we individually call "me?" Do we revel in His creation, trusting that a Great and Almighty God crafted us with purpose and intention? Do we look at the unique qualities that only we possess and take pleasure, or do we try to take it upon ourselves to redesign what has already been perfectly crafted? OUCH! I dare say that we, the created, have been known to tell the creator what He should, could, ought to do to make us more like a different creation......Can I get an amen!? My three daughter pictured above are all three so different and unique, and I really wouldn't want it any other way!

I know that I spent most of my childhood and part of my adult life believing that God made a mistake when he created me. I could be happy if I was like ______. I would be successful if He would have made me like _________. I wanted more friends like _______, I wanted more kids like _______, I wanted a laugh like _____________, and hair like ___________. I mean seriously, we fill those blanks in with different things and people all the time. Then, on top of all that I would torment myself with these questions.....why did you laugh at that? Why aren't you more talkative, why aren't you less talkative, why, why, why????

In the book of Job we see God lay out a few questions that I will pass on to you....
Job 38 - "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line?......Who kept the sea inside its boundaries?...Have you ever commanded the morning to appear and caused the dawn to rise in the east?..." Read the rest of the chapter.....better yet, start at the beginning and read the entire book. Allow it to speak to your heart.

God takes His creation seriously. You were crafted and designed with purpose. I took a pottery class with my friend. Never once did my piece I was working on start telling me what I should do with it.....yet, we do that to the Maker of the Universe! What would we do if that happened to us? Probably scream and run away, but God is patient with us. God wants us to trust in Him. He wants us to rest in Him. When we do that, we will be free to be exactly who God made us to be.

John 14:1-3 has been my favorite portion of scripture since I was a child. I grew up full of anxiety and broken inside, yet John 14:1 says, "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me." We have a choice!!! We can choose to keep our hearts from being troubled.......by putting our trust in God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ!

Trust that the same God that designed a way to rescue us from the penalty of our sins, designed you perfectly and with a purpose!!! You are amazing my friend!

My daughter and I had the pleasure of reviewing The Scarlet Pimpernel E-Guide from Progeny Press. You have no idea how happy I was to find Progeny Press! Gone are the days where I have to pre-read books and make my own study guide!! Woooohooo! Come on....I can't be the only person that did that!

I love that this is an E-Guide too. We are not a very traditional homeschool family...with me working outside the home as well...so having it in digital format was great! I was able to have it downloaded on my computer, and my daughter had it downloaded onto hers. This way if she had any questions or problems she could call and I had it right at my fingertips if necessary.

There are two things that I absolutely love, love, love when it comes to education and that would be History and VOCAB! I don't know why I love vocabulary so much, but my girls and even their friends can attest to the fact that vocab is a LOVE with me!  LOL!  Don't judge...we all have our little quirks! So for me, the vocabulary section at the beginning of each section was my absolute favorite part of this E-Guide! I don't say that to discount any other part of the E-Guide. Progeny Press is amazing at putting together a well thought out and superbly executed guide that help your child acquire a well-rounded knowledge of the book they are reading. Although The Scarlet Pimpernel E-Guide is for high schoolers, Progeny Press also has guides for Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Middle School, so be sure to read the other reviews to learn the full range of what Progeny Press has to offer.

My daughter was able to put this to quick use because she was finishing up British Literature, and this flowed nicely with our lesson plans. One of her favorite parts of the E-Guide were all the optional activities and pre-reading activities that they included. I am definitely one of those people that learns better with a "hands-on" approach and I believe I may have passed that on to my daughters. She really enjoyed the activities and I feel that it gave her a better understanding of the book.

My bottom line is simple. Progeny Press is a fabulous company that makes my job easier as a homeschool mom. They go above and beyond to print quality materials while still maintaining their Christian perspective. I feel that this E-Guide gave my daughter a true critical analysis of The Scarlet Pimpernel and that was my goal! You too may be searching for a company that will help make your job as a homeschool parent easier, and I believe you have come to the right place. Way to go Progeny Press!!

Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd Review

I was so excited when Forbrain - Sound for Life LTD sent me a package with their bone conduction headset inside! I really wanted to see if it would help my youngest daughter focus better when she reads, but I also knew that I wanted to give it a try myself! I may or may not have a few focus issues of my own!!  LOL!! Honestly, I just really wanted to find out exactly what this device was!

Forbrain is a uniquely designed product to help you train your brain. Through the combination of the bone conduction transducers, the high quality microphone, and a specially designed dynamic filter, the Forbrain helps you hear yourself more clearly as you speak, which in turn helps you stay focused on the task at hand. The goal of the headset is to help you increase your memory, focus, and auditory processing. Forbrain believes in helping both adults and children develop their potential and talents by using their own voice.

Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd ReviewWell, let me just say that with all that this product promises, each of us in my family were excited to give it a try for a variety of reasons.

My youngest daughter used the headset while she was reading. She has struggled with reading comprehension issues, and we knew that it would be great for her to give the Forbrain headset a try. She reads for about an hour a day (since we are currently on our summer break), so she wore the headset while she read. As we were nearing the end of the review period I asked her what she thought of it. She said, "I felt like I was really able to focus on my story without getting distracted." For us, that is HUGE!

Forbrain – Sound For Life Ltd ReviewMy husband wanted to give it a try too. He is working on his Master's Degree now and thought that the headset might help him while he studied. Unfortunately, he was unable to get it to work for him. It seems that his head was a little too large for the device and it kept popping off his head. I feel badly that he wasn't able to give it a fair shake, because I think he really could have benefited from it!

I also gave it a try and spent 20-30 minutes a day using it while I was reading my Bible. As a person who struggles a bit with some ADD issues, I found that it helped me keep my attention on what I was doing much easier than usual. I also found that it helped me remember what I read longer. With me turning 46 this year, I am thankful for a tool that can help focus this wandering brain of mine!

Since I previously stated that it didn't fit on my husband's head, I wanted to show that I have a normal sized head and it fits perfectly. I do believe that my husband must have an abnormally large head.....[ha ha ha]

My bottom line on this product is that it is a pretty amazing piece of technology. The simplicity of the premise is what makes the Forbrain so spectacular....."use your voice to boost your brain."

I love the fact that my daughter was able to comprehend what she read so much easier and without frustration. She noticed that she wasn't distracted while reading, and I noticed that she seemed to have an easier time reading, and didn't get so aggravated while doing it. As a mom, that is always the goal for our kids!

How many of you wake up and feel blessed by God every day?! I am happy to say that I am one of those people. I have learned the importance of resting in the peace of God and counting my blessings. I also know how very blessed I am to have the Pastors that I do. Every service God drops tidbits of wisdom and knowledge straight into my soul through the lips of the people He called to teach and train me. Below is a quote that I heard during our Wednesday night Bible study several weeks ago, and it has been rolling around in my heart and mind ever since.

Just think about it for a minute.....have you ever been going through something and started feeling all alone. We can't "feel" God's presence, so we assume we have been left, stranded and abandoned. We get so caught up in our feelings that we stop looking for Him.

Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

We must always rely on God's Word over our own feelings. God's Word repeatedly tells us that He will never leave us or forsake us. He will never leave us......or forsake us!!  WOW!!! Do you know what never means?  Well, I looked it up just in case you weren't sure....ha ha ha!

Woohoo! This makes me so excited!! At no time in the past or the future will God ever leave us or forsake us. Under no circumstance, not ever, not once, not at all, not for a moment, on no account.......will God ever leave us or forsake us!!!  Come on!!! This is definitely shout worthy!!!

So no matter what our situation looks like. No matter what our situation feels like, trust in the God who never leaves us. Recognize that He is at work in our lives, and renew your hope in Him!!

      Other verses:
      Hebrews 13:5
      Joshua 1:5
      Deuteronomy 31:6
      Psalm 94:14

      Encouragement

Philemon 1:7 “Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.”

Are you an encourager? Do you go out of the way to be an encouragement to those around you? This is the very question that I posed to a group of ladies just a few weeks ago. God's Word tells us to encourage one another, not to pick each other apart!  I know that personally, there have been people who made a huge impact in my life by speaking encouraging words into my life.....or by sending a card in the mail.

The fact of the matter is this, our world is lost. You don't have to have the news on too long before that becomes painfully evident. We need to be an encouragement to those around us. We are called to be salt and light to this world, and yet we get so caught up in our own life that we forget our true mission.

I Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

We all influence people whether we recognize it or not! It is important to be intentional with everything we do, especially in regards to our influence and encouragement of other people.
What would happen if you decided to influence lives on purpose?  What would that look like? I believe we would look more and more like Christ! We would illuminate the path for others straight to the heart of God!!!

When I was a young adult I had a job at a popular steakhouse. I would attend church each week and leave right at the end of the sermon and head to work for the lunch rush. I hate to say this, but I was treated the worst by the "salt and light" people. THAT SHOULD NOT BE SO!! Wake up Christians and share the love of Christ with the people around you! It will make a difference ......at the very least .....in the person's day.......at the very most.........in their eternity!!!

Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

In January my Pastor challenged us to live intentionally and to pray and encourage one another. To do whatever it is that we are doing....on purpose! To live our lives purposefully. I know to some of you this might be foreign, you may feel that life is something that happens to you when you are trying to get things done, but we have the power to walk out the will of God in our lives with intention and meaning. When we do that, we will change the world for Christ.

So, stop what you're doing right now and encourage someone, while it is still called today!

The Glass Castle {Shiloh Run Press Review}I am the mother of three daughters and what I have found is that they are all so completely different. My first two girls have always loved to read. So when it became evident that daughter number three hated to read., I tried everything I could to try to help her acquire a love for reading. I think that is why I am so excited that my daughter enjoyed reading The Glass Castle by Trisha White Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins from Shiloh Run Press.
I will allow you to hear from her in a minute, but I just have to give a "Mom Shout Out" for this amazing book. My daughter that never likes to finish a book she starts.....finished this book in 2 days!! Yes.....you heard it right! Only 2 days! I was completely shocked at how quickly she devoured it.

The Glass Castle consists 41 short chapters, and is almost impossible to put down!

Please read the review written by my daughter, BrylieJo Yingst.

      The Glass Castle

The Glass Castle is written by Trisha White Priebe and Jerry B. Jenkins. I found it to be a mysterious and interesting book. The main portion of the book took place in the castle, and the townspeople were always poor and hungry. There were only a few people that were rich other than the king. And of course, the king lived in the castle with the soon to be queen.

All the children in this book are thirteen, when orphans reached the age of thirteen they got kidnapped and taken to the castle. When they reached the castle a star marking appeared on their wrists. If they escaped the star was a sign that they needed to be taken back the castle. All the thirteen year olds had a bounty on their heads. If they were caught they either died or got sent to the forbidden city. The children were hiding in the higher end in the castle all of them took care of the castle, because the castle was short on staff. The staircase led to hallways with doors that led to rooms so the children could go all around the castle unknown and unseen.

The main character Avery wanted to get out the castle and save her father and brother. When she arrived at the castle a boy named Tuck helped her with getting together what she thought about the castle. She always felt weird around him, that was the first boy that she felt that way with. He saved her from getting caught many times and he started to feel feelings for her also. When he told her about his feelings she ran not because she nervous but because she saw her house. She ran to her house found that her dad was not there. Then she had many things to face when she made her there and made her way back. She told Tuck about her feelings after she got back. This whole book she was looking for the secret tunnels from moms stories. The last chapter in the book was about how she found what I think to be the secret tunnels.
This book was written in a way that made it easy and interesting to read. I would highly recommend this book. I absolutely loved it! They wrote this book in a way that made you never want to put the book down, which is why I never put it down!!  I am proud to say that I loved it. I would rate this book an eight out of a ten. There was just enough mystery to make the book a good page turner.

      --The End

So here is my bottom line:
It is difficult to find clean fiction for kids these days. Having had one of my girls graduate from "Brick and Mortar" I know firsthand the types of books that are deemed to be required reading. So my quest for great Christian fiction was satisfied when we had the chance to get our hands on The Glass Castle. I know that she will be excited to read it again, and I know that she wants her friends to read it too!

I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like it is so hard to find fun, interesting, and interactive curriculum/work for students in older grades. With two girls in High School, I have to search long and hard for just the right product to fit the bill. That is why I was so glad to have the opportunity to review MaxScholar Reading Intervention Programs. As part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew, we were given a one-year access to the website and the MaxGuru program in exchange for a review. MaxScholar offers a variety of activities for students to improve reading skills with their MaxScholar Reading Intervention Programs. My daughter utilized the MaxReading program first. In this portion of the program there are pre-selected pieces of literature that your student can read. When it is first opened up in on your screen, the vocabulary words are highlighted in gray. I had my daughter read through each vocab word and click on any words that she didn't already know. When you click on the vocab words, the definition pops up and gives you other ways to fully comprehend the word. Then when you click next you have the option to read the piece without the highlighted vocab. Then you click the next button again and you are asked to highlight the Topic, Main Idea, and Important Details. The next step in the MaxReading is checking your work. When you click the next button this time, it will show you what you highlighted and what you could have highlighted and give you a percentage grade. This really helps your student slow down and look at all the important details, which helps them comprehend what they are reading even better.

The next stage in MaxReading is building an outline for a writing project. Your student has the opportunity to look through the piece and pick out the Topic first and then as many Ideas, and Details as they can find. They need to pick carefully because this information is what they will be using in their writing project. My daughter was nervous moving into this stage. She has struggled with dyslexia and reading comprehension and has always found writing to be difficult. The wonderful thing is that she has already done the hard work. At this point your student can choose one of three writing choices. Once your have chosen, you are able to see all the important details that you have already highlighted. That definitely helped my daughter write out her answer with confidence!
On this particular piece my daughter chose to answer the "open-ended question" She was able to utilize her "notes" by viewing the piece she highlighted as she wrote out her answer. Then she answered a series of several questions.  All the scores are tallied together and she received a final grade on her writing project from start to finish.  Please note that at this point your student is able to go back into certain areas and look at each section in a little more detail.

There are plenty of stories to read, so your student can work their way through each one!

MaxReading is only one of the options. There is also:

MaxPhonics - Which teaches students letters and their sounds through kinesthetic drills and fun, interactive assessments.
MaxWords - Uses the new Orton-Gillingham based module which helps students improve their spelling, vocabulary and reading of multisyllable words.
MaxMusic - Which happens to be my all-time favorite! This section of MaxGuru utilizes different learning games all based on music. I loved watching my daughter sing along to the songs as she works her way through the activity! That makes learning fun!

MaxVocab - Is a fun way to expand your student's vocabulary as they have fun!

MaxPlaces, - This section will teach your student about dozens of cities around the world. It also does a great job of weaving culture and history into the knowledge learned.

MaxBios - Teaches your student about important people through the course of history.

My bottom line is that this product is amazing and well worth the investment! We loved this product and I enjoyed watching my daughter gain confidence in her writing abilities.
